Common Depression Symptoms

There are many recognised depression symptoms. One of these is a general slowing down of an individuals movements, speech and thinking.  So much so that some sufferers are thought of as retarded.  Another sign is altered sleeping and eating patterns.  Many sufferers of depression get very little sleep and often wake up in the early hours.  Sometimes sufferers lose their appetite and any interest in food during a depression whereas some tend to eat a lot more.  Other symptoms of depression include a lack of energy and drive, feelings of hopelessness and inferiority, embarrassment and self-loathing, a feeling of guilt and worthlessness, increased inhibition, thoughts of death and anxiety and agitation.  This last symptom of irrational anxiety, often amounting to more pronounced agitation, is very common in depression.  In some sufferers, the agitation can reach the stage where they can have panic attacks.
