Australian number plates cameras
Australian police forces have begun testing cameras that instantly decipher number plates. Four Police cars will be fitted with the Automated Number Plate Recognition cameras, which tell police whether a vehicle is untested, unregistered, uninsured, or stolen. They can also inform the officers if the vehicle is suspected to be one used by criminals or terrorists. This should cut down the number of crimes unrelated to vehicle offences.The trial will run until the end of 2009, when it will be decided whether it has been a successs as it has been in the U.K. and also whether more cameras will be installed.
